Wild Animals in my Neighborhood

I have a lot of wild animals in my neighborhood. The animals are: rabbits, snakes, deer, coyotes, and squirrels. The animal that I see the most are the deer.

The deer are mostly coming because they want all the grass in the hill in my backyard. Sometimes they cross the street.

Here is picture of the deer.

The snakes are all around my neighborhood and I see them a lot too.

Here are some of the snake pictures. This snakes was a rattlesnake and it was in my backyard! The snake was 4 1/2 feet long!

I don't have any pictures of the rabbits, squirrels, and coyotes because I never see them that much.

Have you ever seen one of these animals in you backyard or neighborhood?

Isn't the snake scary?

Which one would you not want to see? Tell me!

That snake is a Southern Pacific Rattlesnake, Crotalus helleri, if you're curious. Thanks for letting it pass :)

Dear Nick,

I think you are very lucky to have so much wildlife nearby. We see a lot of deer here in Connecticut also, but the foxes and coyotes mostly wait for night to come out. Today I saw a big red-tailed hawk sitting on the soccer goal when I left school! It sat there for a while and let me look, and then it flew off.

I love to go hiking and look for birds and other wildlife. I actually lived in California for about a year, north of you near Carmel. I lived inland from Big Sur and would see quite a few rattlesnakes when I would hike. They are certainly scary, but are also very beautiful and amazing.

Thanks for another great post!

From,
Mr. Salsich

@ Bryan,

Thanks for the facts and the comment. I didn't know that. How did you learn that? Who told you?

@ Mr. Salsich,

Thanks for the awesome comment. I think it is really cool how the coyotes and the deer come out at night because sometimes here the coyotes come out in the morning looking for food on the streets. I didn't know that you lived in California. Where is Carmel?

Sincerely,
Nick

P.S. Great comments, Mr. Salsich, and Bryan!

Hi Nick,

I'm helping Miss Wyatt with the Student blogging Challenge and thought I would drop past to see how you are going.

While I like the idea of all the wildlife near by -- I really don't like snakes. Don't tell any one but I'm scared of snakes but then we have some of the deadliest snakes in Australia so I suppose that is fine.

My favorite wild life is kangeroos, even if they are bad for farmers and their crops. There is something beautiful about them.

Thanks for sharing photos of wild animals in your neigorhood.

Best of luck with the Student blogging Challenge.

Hi Nick,
I love this post. Especially, since I have seen these animals in our backyard. By far, the scariest one was the snake. It hissed and stuck its tough out at me. The deer are just so beautiful. I love it when they come to visit.
I love reading your posts. Keep up the great work. I am so proud of you!

Hi Nick,
I'm a teacher in Western Australia. We certainly don't get the wild animals you do in our neighbourhood. I quite like snakes if they're not poisonous, but the poisonous ones aren't so much fun! We get snakes at our school quite often and once we had a dugite in the classroom! We had to get our principal to get rid of it because I wasn't going near it!
I think your blog is fantastic! Good luck with the challenge.

@ Mommy,

Thanks for the awesome comment. I agree with you that the snakes are not cool, and it was huge!! I would not like to be near the snake. Luckily, I was in school when it happened.

@ Cathy Vivian,

Thanks for the awesome comment. When I followed you link off of your name it says you are a teacher in York. Is York in Western Australia? I am so surprised your principal had to come and take the snake away!

Thanks for the comments,
Nick

P.S. Great comments!

Hi Nick,

I loved your post about animals in your neighbourhood! I was especially interested because in Australia we do not have coyotes, squirrels or wild deer (well I am pretty sure we don't have wild deer!)

We do have snakes and rabbits. Wild rabbits are pests in Australia and snakes can be dangerous.

Next time you see a coyote or a squirrel I would love you to take a photo!

Out in the wild in Australia you might see kangaroos, koalas or possums!

From your friend,
Miss McGeady

@ Miss McGeady,

Thanks for the marvelous comment. I can't believe in the wild you see kangaroos.

Dear Nick,

I have seen a lot of deer near my house because I live on a hill and there are huge trees and bushes.

Some snakes are very very dangerous like a cobra and a boa. Once I was skateboarding, and I stopped right next to a baby snake. I jumped right off my skateboard. Lucky the snake was dead.

Kate

@ Kate,

Thanks for the awesome comment. That sounded pretty scary that you stopped next to a dead baby snake. What kind of snake was it?

@ Jared,

Thanks for the awesome comment. I would not like to have a snake in my backyard again.

Dear Nick,

I had never seen a snake in my backyard. I have been to a couple of birthday parties where there were snakes that we could hold and touch, and I had one wrapped around my neck. I would never touch or go near a snake in my backyard, because we never know if they are mean.

Jared

G'day Nick,
Where I live I have lots of birdlife - magpies, noisy miners, galahs and white cockatoos. The magpies often come up to my front door while the galahs are drinking from any little puddle of water on the ground.

Hi Nick,

I am helping Miss Wyatt with the blogging challenge. So I thought I would come back and see what you had added to your blog from the last time I have visited.

Wow, to be able to see deer in your backyard must be so enthralling.

The thing I wouldn't like to see is my backyard is a snake especially a rattlesnake.

I have lots of wild birds come into my backyard. magpies, cockatoos, corellas, and parrots.

I have seen animals in my backyard and I would love to see a snake there just once. And I am a girl if you were wondering.

Dear Nick,

I think you don't see the rabbits because the rabbits come in the morning when you're probably asleep and the coyotes are nocturnal.

Once I was just half a step away from getting bit by a king snake! The deer that live in my neighborhood live in the mountains or right next to them.

Were you once about to get bit by a snake? Do deer dwell on the mountains or beside them?

Sincerely,
Sam

Nick said...

@ Sam,

Thanks for the awesome comment. Maybe your right about the rabbits.

Dear Nick,
It is awesome that you have your own blog! I would not want to see the snake in your backyard. They are really scary animals, but they are also cool at the same time. I can not believe that it was four feet long! Where I live I will usually see a couple of squirrels in my backyard every ten minutes. Today, I saw an awesome looking huge red-tailed hawk diving for its prey. Once when I was on a hike, I saw a swarm of bees surrounding the hive. It is really awesome that you have a lot of animals in your neighborhood.
Do you like animals? I do.

Sincerely,

Andrew S. (Mrs. Ranney's student)

Dear Nick,

I have seen deer in my neighborhood. The deer were eating grass about 20 feet away from me. Yes, I do think the snake is scary. How far were you away from the snake? I wouldn't want the snake in my back yard. Once I saw some raccoons in my back yard. It looked like one of the raccoons foot was hurt. Also I have seen a owl in my backyard.

Sincerely,
Liam

@ Andrew,

Thanks for the awesome comment. Yes, I do like animals. My favorite animal is a shark because of its sharp teeth. My favorite land animal is a rattlesnake because it is poisonous.

Thanks,

Nick
